Gov. Steve Sisolak says Nevada will get $57 million over the next five years through the federal Carbon Reduction Program.
The funding is part of a $6.4 billion package to help states deal with carbon emissions and is contained in the infrastructure law.
Sisolak said the funding is critical since Nevada is home to some of the nation’s fastest warming cities.
He especially thanked members of the state’s congressional delegation who he said played a leading role in securing passage of the law.
Kristina Swallow, director of the Nevada Department of Transportation, said the department is eager to work with state and local partners to leverage the funding and seek creative and sustainable solutions to transportation challenges.
