Nevada Division of State Parks is hosting a virtual open house concerning the future of the Lahontan State Recreation Area.
The Nevada Division of State Parks has opened a virtual open house to gather public input into the Lahontan State Recreation Area Development Plan Update. This virtual platform is a follow-up to the initial public workshop series held in June, according to a news release.
Lahontan visitors will have the opportunity to weigh in on key questions to help shape the future of the recreation area. Plus, participants will be entered into a raffle to win a Nevada State Parks All Access park pass, which provides free entrance, camping and boating for an entire year.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for us to better understand what our visitors need and want out of Lahontan,” Tony Beauregard, Lahontan State Recreation Area supervisor, said in the release. “The more input we receive, the better, so we strongly encourage everyone to participate.”
LSRA is more than 29,000 acres and provides numerous recreational opportunities, including camping, boating, hunting, and fishing. Last modified in 1991, the existing development plan is outdated. The plan update project is a collaboration between NDSP and the National Park Service Rivers Trails and Conservation Assistance program, and brings together a multi-disciplinary team of planners, field staff, and other subject matter experts.
When complete, the Development Plan Update will help NDSP implement priority projects to improve the recreation experience.
“Public input is key to a successful plan. With this virtual open house, we can expand our reach to more visitors and better understand user needs, constraints, and opportunities. By taking the time to participate, our visitors can help guide the future of the recreation area,” said Dana Dapolito, NDSP planning program manager.
The virtual open house will be available for participation through Sept. 7.
