Nevada Treasurer Zach Conine has filed a bill draft request he said will help women’s health care professionals stay in Nevada and repay student loans.
Under the plan, he said all new health care providers graduating from the Nevada System of Higher Education would be eligible for up to $120,000 in student loan repayment if they agree to work five years in an underserved community in Nevada.
The plan would focus on obstetricians, gynecologists, family physicians, advanced care nurses and other providers of women’s health care services. Those professionals would be eligible if they practice in low-income census tracts, tribal communities, communities with a high percentage of limited English proficiency and areas that have been subject to discriminatory practices.
The plan would be funded by the Abandoned Property Trust Account.
