Carson City School District’s Mark Twain Elementary School speech-language pathologist Taylor Mandelli was the recent recipient of the “Apple Award” from the Delta Kappa Gamma Nu Chapter in the amount of $100.
Delta Kappa Gamma is an educational organization of teachers who support other teachers.
Mandelli plans to use the award to help fund and build an inventory of engaging and enjoyable materials for speech therapy geared toward language development for preschool to second-grade students. This age group generally benefits from colorful and fun visuals to aid in learning vocabulary and learning to be effective communicators, Mandelli said.
Mandelli joined the Carson City School District in October. Previously, she had worked in health care, primarily the geriatric community for the first three years of her career.
The Delta Kappa Gamma Society Nu Chapter was founded May 19, 1978. Its membership is comprised of women educators in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties. Members make a difference in education worldwide through various projects, both at the international and chapter level.
