The lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the reapportionment maps approved by lawmakers in the Special Legislative Session has been expanded to include Gov. Steve Sisolak and Attorney General Aaron Ford.

The suit was filed by Republican Assemblyman Gregory Hafen of Pahrump and former Nye County Commissioner John Koenig.

The complaint was also amended to add several more plaintiffs including Elko County and Elko Assemblyman John Ellison.

The lawsuit argues that the maps approved by lawmakers and the governor violate the Nevada Constitution and asks a court order prohibiting the use of those district boundaries in the coming election.

Hafen said the maps, “created some of the most blatantly gerrymandered maps in the history of Nevada.”

He said in several places those maps divide communities and counties that could easily have been kept together. That, he said, violates constitutional guarantees of equal voting rights for all.
