Reclamation announces fire restrictions for northern Nevada to reduce wildfire risks

The Bureau of Reclamation implemented fire restrictions to reduce wildfire risks on public lands managed by the Lahontan Basin Area Office in Storey, Washoe, Lyon, and Churchill counties effective at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022, and shall remain in effect until October 31, 2022, or until rescinded, whichever occurs first.

The fire restrictions prohibit all fires, campfire, or stove fire, using wood, charcoal, or any other material, except as allowed in the Lahontan State Recreation Area. Portable stoves and lanterns using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel outside of a developed fee campground or picnic area are allowed. Visitors should use these items carefully and carry shovels, water, and fire extinguishers as a precaution.

Other restrictions include:

No motor vehicles or internal combustion engines off established roads or trails.

No possession or use of fireworks.

No target shooting with incendiary, tracer, steel core, armor-piercing, or exploding ammunition or targets made of material that could explode or emit sparks.

No operating a motor vehicle or combustion engine equipment without a spark arrestor.
