Junior tennis players will compete in the first Sierra Junior Tennis Association tournament hosted at Carson High School on Saturday, July 30.
The tournament is a fundraiser for Carson High School’s tennis teams. Several Carson City athletes, along with players from Reno, Truckee, Minden, Lake Tahoe, and the San Francisco Bay Area, will compete for medals and for a chance to train with the University of Nevada tennis squad.
SJTA’s volunteer staff partnered with Adam Whatley, Carson High teacher and coach, and Eldon Wilson, certified U.S. Professional Tennis Association coach, to host the tournament.
Matches begin at 8 a.m. at Carson High. Courts can be accessed behind the school near the National Guard facility. Carson City High School students will be volunteering to assist with set up and coordination at the tournament. SJTA is providing the players water, snacks, medals, goodie bags, sunscreen and two cases of tennis balls for the high school teams.
The tournament is free for the public.
