The rates Southwest Gas charges Nevada customers will increase slightly, effective in April.
The utility filed for increases totaling $28.7 million with the Public Utilities Commission on Aug. 31 to cover the rising cost of providing gas to customers. The vast majority of the increase will hit Southern Nevada customers — $25.9 million of the total.
But $2.8 million will come from Southwest’s Northern Nevada customers — primarily Carson City residents and businesses.
A spokesman for the utility said that translates to about $2.63 a month for the average residential customer in Carson City. It’s slightly more — $2.87 a month — in the south.
