The Carson City Charter Review Committee has begun its biennial effort to deliberate changes to the Carson City Charter.
The Carson City Charter is the governing document that combined Ormsby County and Carson City into one consolidated municipality in 1969. It outlines the city’s election laws, powers of the Board of Supervisors, taxes, and similar city operations.
The review committee is required by law to meet every two years. This year, the city is recommending two changes to the charter.
Deputy City Manager Stephanie Hicks said that staff would like to remove the requirement that city redistricting be completed by Jan. 1 following the U.S. Census. She said that the committee should also consider developing a process to fill empty Board of Supervisors seats when a supervisor must take over as mayor until the next general election.
Carson City residents are invited to provide their feedback and suggestions to www.carson.org/crc/input. Comments may be submitted by email to swood@carson.org or in writing to Charter Review Committee, c/o City Manager’s Office, 201 N. Carson St., Suite 2, Carson City, NV, 89701.
Comments will be accepted until March 31.
The review committee will consider all comments related to the city charter, and it will submit final decisions to the Board of Supervisors.
Meeting dates are tentatively set for April 12, May 20, and June 17 at 1:30 p.m. in the Robert “Bob” Crowell Board Room of the Community Center on 851 E. William St.
