Spring sports are in full swing this week for the Greenwave and Bighorns’ high school programs.
The Fallon baseball and softball teams begin their league season this weekend on the road when they travel to Sparks on Friday and Wooster on Saturday. The Greenwave’s baseball team is coming off a 3A East championship when it clawed through the league bracket last May and then upset Dayton for the title.
The swimming team makes its first splash on Saturday in Carson and the boys golf team will open next week with a pair of tournaments in Lyon County.
For Oasis Academy, the 1A defending state champion softball team opened its season last weekend in Yerington and begins league play when the Bighorns visit Coleville for a Saturday doubleheader. The Bighorns swept the competition, scoring wins over Coleville (8-2), Pyramid Lake (11-3), Smith Valley (9-8) and Sierra Sage Academy/ROP (14-7).
The Lady Bighorns lacrosse team opens its season next week after finishing one game shy of the championship last season when it lost to Manogue. And the golf team will hit the links with a pair of tournaments.
The following schedule is for Churchill County and Oasis Academy high school prep sports from March 10-16. Dates and times are subject to change. Oasis Academy’s home softball games are played at the East Richards field and lacrosse games are at the county regional park. Both CCHS and Oasis Academy’s golf teams play their home tournaments at the Fallon Golf Course.
