The Lady Wave softball team didn’t disappoint in its home opener Saturday.

Fallon, which had no trouble sweeping a pair of Reno-Sparks schools last weekend, ran into its first test of the young season, breaking a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat North Valleys, 3-1, at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.

Fallon competes in the Reed tournament Friday and Saturday in Sparks.

Lydia Bergman was perfect at the plate, including hitting the first pitch she saw in the final inning to end the game with a two-run blast, her second home run of the game. Bergman also singled twice.
Vernita Fillmore was nearly perfect in the circle for Fallon, holding onto a 1-0 lead until the sixth inning when North Valleys’ Kylah Myers hit a solo home run. Fillmore, though, buckled down to finish strong, striking out three in the game.

After Fillmore retired the side in order in the seventh, Darci Owens opened the bottom half with a walk before Bergman drilled the first pitch to center to end the game. Supporting Bergman at the plate were Fillmore, Reece Hutchings, Dana Buckmaster and Taralynn Vershum, who each singled.
Fallon had multiple chances to score more runs, including in the first inning when Bergman singled followed by Hutchings walking with two outs. A strikeout ended the opening threat. Fallon loaded the bases in the following inning but another strikeout left three on base.

Bergman got Fallon on the board first in the third inning when she hit a 1-1 pitch over the center-field fence.

After Fillmore gave up the home run, Fallon had a chance to break the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning after Vershum singled and Maddie Keller walked. Buckmaster flew out to first, Tutie Ames struck out and Fillmore grounded out to second to leave two stranded.
