CCHS Scholarship & Academic Awards Night is May 23 at 6 p.m. in the CCHS Theater.
CCHS will be recognizing students who have received scholarships along with students who have received a letter in academic achievement. Students and/or families will receive a letter in the mail with more information. If you have any questions, contact the high school at 775-423-2181.
Emergency management open house
The Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe’s Emergency Management open house has been rescheduled for May 26 at 10 a.m. followed by an open house from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The new Emergency Management facility is located at 8942 Mission Road.
Friday night street dance
The Churchill County Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Federal Fire Department at Naval Air Station Fallon, is hosting a street fare on Carson Street.
The May 13 dance, which is free and open to the public, will be held on North Carson Street. Henning said families are welcome, and he hopes for a big turnout from the area’s residents and visitors.
The dance and other activities are planned from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Disc jockey Todd Moretto will provide the music, and the firefighters will serve the food. A tri-tip sandwich with chips and a pickle will cost $10, and a hot dog, chips and pickle is $5. In addition to soft drinks, Henning said the fire department will also serve alcohol. Firefighters from NAS Fallon will bring their ice cream machine.
In addition to food and dance, the NAS Fallon firefighters will bring their fire training trailer.
Besides the Friday night fun, the fire department is having a raffle with each ticket costing $20. The raffle prizes are a Colt AR15 5.56 mm with 500 rounds of ammunition; a Glock 19 gen 9 mm with 250 rounds of ammunition; and a Ruger Wrangler .22lr SA revolver with 100 rounds of ammunition.
Firefighters are selling the raffle tickets or they may be purchased at the fire department on 20 N. Carson St. The food sales and raffle are both fundraisers for the fire department.
CC Democrats
The Churchill County Democrats will hold their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, May 12, at the Churchill County Administration Complex on the corner of North Taylor and A streets in room 136.
They will be planning their summer picnic and voting on their current platform. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.
Fire hydrants testing
The Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department will be testing fire hydrants within the City of Fallon during the evenings through May 13.
This annual testing is important to ensure the system is functioning properly and is one of many requirements that the fire department must complete in order to maintain its ISO Class 1 rating. This rating can help reduce insurance rates that homeowners pay.
During this period of peak fire demand water testing it is common for water consumers to experience discolored water. This discoloration occurs due to abnormally high flows in the piping system which can stir up small amounts of naturally occurring sediment.
Please remember that although the water may be discolored, it has been properly treated and is entirely safe. If the water is heavily discolored, you may wish to temporarily refrain from drinking from the tap or washing clothes.
Fallon Alumni Chapter golf
Come out and join the Fallon Alumni Chapter on June 18 at our annual golf tournament to raise funds for the Elmo and Donna Dericco Memorial Scholarship fund.
This fun tournament is open to all Nevada alumni, Wolf Pack fans and golfers alike. Your entrance fee includes greens fees, cart and lunch served immediately after the tournament. There is also a silent auction.
Tickets are $80 for non-Fallon Golf Course members, and $40 for Fallon Golf Course members. The Wolfie Package is $20 and includes mulligans (maximum 4 per team; one 12-inch string to guide your team’s stroke; and roll the die for your tee box

Meningococcal vaccines
The Nevada Legislature has passed a NEW LAW - if your student is an incoming senior, they must have the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) BEFORE they can start school in the fall. This means that every single current 11th grader has to have this vaccine before they can start 12th grade. This does not apply to any other grade.
Parents can get this vaccine (MCV4) at their doctor's office, pharmacy, or the community health nurse (the appointments for the community health nurse must be scheduled in advance as hours are limited). Once your child receives the vaccine, please notify CCHS school nurse Adonna Crowley at crowleya@churchillcsd.com or call her at 775-423-2181 ext. 4124 with the date the vaccine was given. May vaccine and testing information
Churchill County continues to offer COVID vaccine and testing opportunities in May 2022 to anyone aged five years and older. Vaccines are offered at both the Miner’s Road Public Health Site and the William N. Pennington Life Center; testing is only offered at Miner’s Road.
Please check the calendar link above for offerings on specific days in May as the schedule varies week to week. No services offered on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays, but all three vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson) are available at all vaccine clinics.
Booster shots are available to anyone 16+ who is five months out from their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna or two months out from the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Be sure to bring your vaccination card with you if seeking any dose beyond your first dose.
While county public health does not have rapid tests to offer, residents may buy their own and bring it to any testing clinic and county health staff will administer the test and certify the results. PCR tests currently take about five days to get results back.
Second COVID booster doses
In keeping with Center for Disease Control guidance issued in late March 2022, Churchill County is now offering second COVID booster doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for individuals age 50 and up as well as a second booster of the Pfizer vaccine for those aged 12 and up or the Moderna vaccine for those 18 and up with moderate to severe immunocompromising health conditions.
To be eligible for the second booster, one must have completed the primary three-dose vaccine series.
Based on emerging data, the CDC indicates a second booster dose may increase protection levels for higher-risk individuals.
Those eligible to receive the recommended additional mRNA (both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines) booster dose include the following:
• Certain immunocompromised individuals, including individuals 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised and are four months out from their first booster;
• Individuals age 50 and older who received an initial booster dose at least four months ago who are not moderately or severely immunocompromised;
• Adults (18-49 years old) who received a primary vaccine and booster dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least four months ago.
All three vaccines are available at all Churchill County vaccine clinics. Vaccines are offered at the Miner’s Road public health site on Monday mornings, Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings and at the William N. Pennington Life Center on Wednesdays. See the full schedule for April.
CCHS graduation
CCHS graduation is June 3 at 7 p.m. at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex’s football field.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
Seniors are to arrive by 6 p.m. to stage in the auxiliary gym with their caps and gowns (school academic regalia will be distributed to them then).
Seniors will receive seven tickets each for field seating (there is no limit to the number of guests in the stands) provided all of their fees have been paid. Only students will receive the tickets, and they will not be released to anyone else.
Seniors will receive two parking passes for their family members. Those passes will give them access to the student parking lot, Lahontan Elementary parking lot, and the school's soccer field parking lot. There will be overflow parking (no passes required) on Miners Road (Bus transportation to and from Miners Road will be provided from 5:30-7 p.m. and again from 9-10 p.m.). There will also be golf carts to transport people from our parking lots to the field, if needed.
Seniors will also receive one student parking pass in order for them, not their parents, to park in the staff parking lot. These passes will all be monitored by staff.
Students will receive their official diploma following the ceremony. Staff will be in the auxiliary gym lobby to distribute the diplomas and collect any academic regalia that needs to be returned.
Grad Night follows the graduation at the Coconut Bowl in Sparks.
There will be unlimited food, mini golf, laser tag, arcade games, a photobooth, bowling and go karts!
Every senior who attends will receive a gift.
Students who did not receive tickets should check with the high-school office.
After graduation, students will meet at the bus pick-up location at the high school near the math building. Busses will leave the high school at 10 p.m. and leave Coconut Bowl at 2 a.m.
