Carson City thrift ready for holiday shoppers

Advocates to End Domestic Violence spent days transforming its thrift store, Classy Seconds, to welcome holiday shoppers Nov. 5.

Executive Director Lisa Lee loves to plan and decorate the store with a different theme annually. The theme chosen this year is Christmas Tree Farm and the display window features an old-fashioned red truck surrounded by flocked trees and snowflakes that will also be lit at night reminiscent of the once-decorated store window displays.

Inside the thrift store, red bows are being hung in the rafters and racks are filled with all the red items. Need an ugly sweater to impress at a holiday party? No problem. How about pajamas? Got that too.

Want to save money on classier boutique holiday clothes? There’s a boutique to browse. And, party shoes. And, cookware and more.

There will be 200 trees on display in the Christmas forest in the rear of the store. Lee states the cost for one of these once expensive trees is $3 per foot. Price a 10-foot tree new and you’ll know you are getting quite the bargain for the gently used tree. Lots of trimming items to make that tree special as well.

Classy Seconds Thrift Store was opened five years ago and has exceeded Lee’s expectations. She has great donors and many repeat customers. All profits go to building a new shelter next year and maintaining the important programs to assist abused women and children.

There’s no need to forgo your classy Christmas because of the economy when you can find all you need at this clean and neat thrift store open daily. You’ll recognize the friendly staff by the specially designed T-shirts and aprons they will be wearing.
