On Thursday at approximately 5 p.m., 775 Offroad and Recovery received a service request from Churchill County Sheriff’s Department to assist an elderly woman who had gotten lost and driven off a dirt road.

The woman ended up on desert dirt roads between Fernley and Lovelock. It was reported that the vehicle was not accessible by tow truck.

775OFR dispatched the call to volunteers and a Fallon volunteer (Brayden) responded. The original coordinates provided were not correct, which delayed arrival time, but the volunteer eventually found the woman in a Chrysler 200 off the roadway, high-centered and unable to move.

The unmaintained service road had deep wash cuts that would have been a challenge for most 4-wheel-drive vehicles. The volunteer was able to extract the vehicle and get it back on the service road.

There was no charge for the service; 775 Offroad and Recovery operates on tips and donations, and volunteers help others at their own expense.
