The Lyon County Commission took corrective action during its Nov. 17 meeting and approved a motion to extend a contract with Dr. Robin Titus to serve as public health officer for two years beginning Jan. 1, 2023.

The contract increases her pay from $200 to $1,000 per month. A $4,800 transfer was approved from contingency to cover the additional costs of the contract.

The item originally was brought before the board on Oct. 20 for consideration. The board returned to it Nov. 3, but commissioners continued the item since the language for a motion exceeded the item and corrective action was necessary.

On Nov. 17, Lyon County Democrats chair Tony Stephenson asked whether Titus would still be paid her salary from the county while she serves during the 2023 legislative session.

“The reason this question came about is because there have been issues with other legislators, mostly Democrats, being challenged on them taking their salaries while they’re in session,” Stephenson asked.

County Comptroller Josh Foli said the item is an independent contractor contract. Titus would be paid $1,000 per month under the county’s terms of the contract and it has nothing to do with the Legislature, he said.

The motion was approved 4-0.
