A structure built in 1906 suffered $500,000 damage in a fire Thursday morning, the Carson City Fire Department said in a news release.

The building is known as the Lee House and is one of the stops on the historical Kit Carson Trail. The building is currently in use as a business for the engineering firm RCI.

CCFD responded to 340 N. Minnesota Ave., at 12:06 a.m., according to the release.

The first engine arrived in six minutes and observed heavy fire conditions throughout the majority of the two-story structure, the release said. Firefighters quickly made entry into the building to search for trapped occupants; fortunately, no one was located inside the building.

Due to the advanced fire conditions, firefighters were forced to battle the blaze from the exterior of the building, the release said. It took 24 firefighters just over 1.5 hours to contain the blaze. Due to firefighters’ aggressive actions, a section of the building was saved.

Mutual aid was provided by the Truckee Meadows and East Fork Fire Protection districts. No injuries were reported; damage is estimated to exceed $500,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the day checking for any smoldering fire.
