Saturday (Oct. 22) is National Make a Dog’s Day. To celebrate, Nevada Humane Society (NHS) is waiving adoption fees on all shelter pups — making them free and ready to take home.

There are three places to adopt a rescue dog in need:

Make a Dog’s Day adoption event at Michael Hohl Subaru in Carson City.

Rescue dogs, puppies and kittens are free to adopt during this fun event Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

NHS Reno Shelter: All dogs and puppies are free to adopt all weekend.

NHS Carson City Shelter: All dogs and puppies are free to adopt all weekend.

A pets promotion

In partnership with Michael Hohl Subaru, NHS has been participating in “Subaru Loves Pets Month” all October, featuring “Underdogs” in need to help them get adopted and find happy, loving homes.

Each day, Nevada Humane Society features a different Underdog in need of help in getting out of the shelter. Underdogs are the rescue pups who spend the longest time at NHS waiting to be adopted, whether because they are older, have medical or behavior issues, or have experienced neglect and are scared and shy.

Throughout October, Subaru is giving NHS $100 for every Underdog who gets adopted.

Today’s featured Underdog, Asher, has an amazing rescue story and he will be available for adoption today at Michael Hohl Subaru as part of Nevada Humane Society’s Make a Dog’s Day event.

Asher came to the NHS Carson City Shelter from a neglectful situation, and in desperate need of love and medical care. When he first arrived, he was very underweight, scared and suffering form a skin condition that required immediate treatment. Three weeks later, this resilient Underdog is thriving and ready to find his forever home. Asher is playing with other dogs, gets along well with cats, and while he still needs a bit of time to warm up to people, he is loving and playful once he gets to know new friends.
