 The Tiger girls soccer team came away with a 1-1 draw at Reno High School on Wednesday.
Junior forward Ava Coons tallied Douglas’ lone goal while Aleeah Weaver was credited with the assist.
Senior goalkeeper Kylie Martin’s performance caught the eye of her head coach after the finish.
“Kylie has been a big part on the defensive end. She made some game-saving blocks throughout the game that kept us in it,” said Douglas head coach Andrew Robles.
UP NEXT: Douglas (4-2-1, 2-0-1 in league) returns to the pitch this afternoon against Galena (4-2-2) for a 3:15 p.m. kickoff.


Girls golf dominates at two meets
Douglas High girls golf has picked up right where it left off after winning a Class 3A state title last year.
In its two most recent outings, Douglas won both events by more than 100 strokes as a team.
Tuesday in Spring Creek, Giana Zinke led the way with an 82 while Abby Miller and Madison Frisby posted matching 88s.
Logan Karwoski and Mackenzie Willis shot a 91 and 93, respectively, while Abbigail Detsch rounded out the Tiger results with a 102.
Wednesday in Elko, the story was the same as Douglas steamrolled its way through its competition.
Abby Miller posted the low score of the day, shooting a 73, while Zinke posted a 76.
Frisby just missed breaking 80 while shooting an 81 while Detsch entered the clubhouse with an 86.
Willis and Karwoski put together scores of 88 and 93, respectively.


Volleyball topples McQueen in five sets 
The Douglas High volleyball team bested McQueen on the Lancers home floor in five sets Thursday.
The Tigers took the second and fourth sets by marks of 25-21 and 25-20 before closing out the fifth and final set, 15-8.
UP NEXT: Douglas (7-9, 2-2) will travel north Tuesday to take on Bishop Manogue (8-3, 4-0).


Boys soccer bests Lowry
Sept. 3, the Douglas High boys soccer team put up a 5-0 win over Lowry in a non-league contest.
Wiu Wiu, Diego Diaz, Alex Diaz, Gustavo Villalovos and Francisco Gallegos each tallied a goal for Douglas.
Joseph Thurston added an assist and put together a shutout in net.
UP NEXT: Douglas (1-2) hosts Fernley (2-3-2) Saturday with an 11:45 a.m. start time.


Girls tennis thumps Reed
Douglas High girls tennis put together a 13-3 win over Reed on Tuesday.
Joscelyn Turner posted a clean sweep in singles with three wins by scores of 6-2, 7-6 and 6-0.
Abby Werth, Hannah Johnson and Annie Hill each won two sets of their own.
On the doubles side, Abigail Hutchings and McKenna Chappell won all three of their sets at No. 1.
Alexis Hyde and Abigail Girdner didn’t have much trouble either, winning all three sets by finals of 6-0, 6-2 and 6-1.
Katy Hutchings and Malena Van Wagenen picked up three set wins, as did the combo of Harley Smith and Laurel Benigno.


Galena boys tennis edges Douglas
The Douglas High boys tennis team fell to Galena, 11-7, Thursday.
Bennett Schoenemann and Kolten Brown were the only two Tigers to win a set in singles.
In doubles, Wade Kuhlmann and Wyatt Frisbee picked up three wins by tallies of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1.
The sophomore pairing of Abram Millward and Bryce Townsend added two wins by scores of 7-6 (1) and 6-4.
