Gov. Steve Sisolak has ordered a full investigation into the case of an inmate who escaped from Southern Desert Correctional Center outside of Las Vegas over the weekend.
He issued the order after discovering the inmate is believed to have gone missing Friday night but escape procedures were not enacted until Tuesday.
“This kind of security lapse cannot be permitted and those responsible will be held accountable,” he said.
Porfirio Duarte-Herrera, 42, from Nicaragua, was convicted in 2010 of using a bomb in 2007 to kill one person at the Luxor on the Las Vegas Strip, according to the Associated Press.
The state Department of Corrections said in a news release Tuesday afternoon that search teams are looking for Duarte-Herrera.
