Douglas High baseball kept the Reed Raiders offense at bay Wednesday in a 3-1 win in Minden.

After three scoreless innings for each side, the Tigers’ offense plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Sophomore catcher Jeffrey Peters doubled down the left field line to score Keegan Snooks. After an Owen Evans single, the Tigers plated their second run on a Raider throwing error. Keegan Freeman singled in Douglas’ final run, scoring Evans on an RBI single to right field.

On the hill, Duncan De Lange was excellent in throwing five innings and striking out six.

The only run De Lange allowed came in his final inning, when the Raiders used a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the fifth.

Arguably his most impressive strikeout came in the fourth inning after the Raiders had loaded the bases.

De Lance fell behind 2-0 with two outs, but turned to his fastball and slung it past a Reed batter for three straight strikes to escape the jam.

“You have to go with your best pitches there and challenge hitters,” said Douglas head coach Ryan Gonzalez. “I think he took a big step in the maturity department. … We know what he can do. Good for him to get out of that situation there and trust his stuff.”

Robert Williams came on in relief and had two punchouts over the final two innings, recording a save.

“He won’t overpower you, but he will throw a lot of strikes and get a lot of outs,” said Gonzalez. “He’s done nothing but get outs for us and we trust him a lot.”
