A Carson City School District teacher and author has been honored with two writing awards for his novels.

“The Raven and the Crow: The Gray Throne,” written by Michael K. Falciani, the pen name of Kinkade DeJoseph, a teacher at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, won “Best Fantasy Novel.” Additionally, another one of his books, “The Dwarves of Rahm: Omens of War,” won Best Steampunk Novel.

The Imaginarium Convention, a convention for writers and storytellers of all genres, hosted in Louisville, Kentucky, July 14-16, featured an expo, a film festival, live entertainment, literary and film awards, cosplay and more. As a culminating event, the Imadjinn Awards recognized finalists for all categories where books nominated must have been published for the first time between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2022.

This year marked the 10-year anniversary of the awards.

“Hundreds of books were entered, and the awards were a merit-based contest, meaning popularity did not factor into the evaluation,” DeJoseph said.

Both novels are set on different continents in the Raven and the Crow universe. For more information and other books in the series, visit threeravenspublishing.com/michael-k-falciani.

Previously, graphic design students at Carson High School were recognized for the work they created in book cover design competitions for DeJoseph. Jaden Anderson, Edwin Iza, Damien King and Tierney Frost all furthered their careers by creating winning designs and earning contracts with the Three Ravens Publishing Co.

King’s design was selected as the book cover for “Dark Storm Rising” while Anderson’s design was selected to be used as a branding logo for the entire “Raven and the Crow” series and on the title pages of all the books. Iza’s design was selected as the book cover for “The Gray Throne” and Frost’s design was selected as the book cover for “Shores of Blood.”
