Senator basketball swept by Damonte Ranch

Both Carson High basketball teams fell at home in league games against Damonte Ranch on Saturday.

The Senator girls weren’t able to secure their first victory of the season, falling 48-31 against the Mustangs.

On the boys side, Damonte Ranch avenged an earlier loss to the Senators by besting Carson 52-32 on its home floor.

As of Tuesday morning, the Carson girls were 0-15 overall and 0-13 in Class 5A league play.

The Senator boys sit at 5-14 overall and 2-11 in league play.

UP NEXT: Both teams were back on their home floor Tuesday night, taking on the Reed Raiders.


CHS wrestling preps for regionals

The annual Northern Nevada Class 5A regional wrestling tournament will be held over two days this week at Morse Burley Gymnasium in Carson City.

The regional tournament starts Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the opening ceremonies.

Action will run through the first round of the consolation and championship semifinals Friday evening before teams will return Saturday morning.

Consolation semifinals will lead things off Saturday morning at 9 a.m. before placing matches continue through the morning and early afternoon.

Championship matches are expected to begin around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

This year, six wrestlers from each weight class will qualify for the state tournament, opening up possibilities for teams to send even more wrestlers to state.


Spring Creek takes care of Dayton

The Spartans of Spring Creek were able to down both Dayton High basketball teams over the weekend in a conference tilt.

The Dayton girls fell, 30-19, which moves their record to 6-12 overall on the season.

In Class 3A league play, the Dust Devils are 0-9.

The boys contest was a much higher scoring affair as Spring Creek won, 92-50.

The Dayton boys are 1-13 overall and 0-7 in league.

UP NEXT: Both teams will get the early portion of the week off before traveling to Lowry for a league contest Friday.

 

Falcon hoops split with Virginia City

Sierra Lutheran girls hoops was able to take down Virginia City, 35-32, over the weekend.

The win moved the Falcons to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in Class 1A West.

The Virginia City boys won the second matchup of the doubleheader, taking down the Falcons, 64-27.

Sierra Lutheran is 12-7 overall and 3-2 in league play.

UP NEXT: The Falcons have two games this week, starting Wednesday at home against Loyalton. Friday, both the girls and boys teams will travel to Pyramid Lake.
