City Council approves business licenses, hears police report

The Fallon City Council was invited to flip some burgers, approved two mobile food vendor licenses and received the May Fallon Police Department activity report at its recent regular meeting.

After the Pledge of Allegiance Mayor Ken Tedford asked for a moment of silence in honor of his friend and former Sparks Mayor Geno Martini, who died June 1.

During public comment, Churchill County High School School-to-Work Coordinator Sue Segura announced a community career fair Aug. 10. She said the Rafter 3C Arena event will feature 45 booths representing local businesses, colleges and the military.

Free hot dogs and hamburgers sponsored by New Millennium Building Systems will be grilling on the Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department barbecue. Segura then invited council members to come and flip some burgers.

• The council approved a mobile food vendor license for Kimberly Fairbanks and her blue trailer decorated with smiling ice cream. Kim's Kool Treats will continue bringing Flavor Burst soft serve ice cream and Dole Whip to Fallon events.

Lynn Lachine was also approved for a mobile food vendor license. Her new mobile coffee truck, The Pony Espresso, will have coffee, tea, sodas, Cinnabons and other pastries for sale.

• Police Chief Ron Wenger presented the May activity report. The 810 calls for service show an increase of 68 when compared to the 742 calls in May 2022. The arrest summary includes 24 juvenile arrests, 24 adult arrests and four misdemeanor citations. FPO made 113 traffic stops, issuing 17 citations and 96 warnings.

Police officers also participated in community events throughout the month. Highlights include escorting the CCHS swim team, golf team and baseball team and the Oasis Academy softball team to regional and state competitions. Officers also escorted Lahontan Elementary School students to the Churchill County Aquatic Center, ran in the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Relay and ensured the safety and security of attendees during the CCHS commencement.
