A man was arrested Sunday, July 16 for the murder of his girlfriend in Fernley, according to a news release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Roger Lee Borud is accused in the death of Sephra Fitak, whose body was found Saturday after a structure fire, the release said.

Saturday at 11:08 a.m., Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel were dispatched to 320 Aspen Way in Fernley for a structure fire. The blaze was isolated within a bedroom of the residence. Fitak’s body was located within the bedroom once the fire was extinguished

An investigation by LCSO, the Nevada State Fire Marshal and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office determined Fitak had been the victim of a homicide and the fire had been intentionally set in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Borud was identified as the suspect and was arrested by Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies on Saturday for burglary, home invasion and probation violation in an unrelated investigation.

On Sunday, LCSO arrested Borud for murder and first degree arson.
