After a six-year absence, former Denver Broncos Super Bowl MVP and Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway will return to compete in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe from July 12-16.

Elway played in the first 27 ACC tournaments until injuries sidelined him in 2017. He has placed in the top 10 of the event 14 times, dating to the inaugural event in 1990.

Elway’s best finish came in 2010, when he tied for second place with NFL quarterback Tony Romo and retired MLB pitcher John Smoltz. Former NFL quarterback Billy Joe Tolliver won that title.

His last ACC appearance was in 2017, when he finished ninth.

Elway spent 16 years as an NFL player and 11 as an executive, all with the Broncos. He quarterbacked the Broncos from 1983 to 1998, starting in all but three of his 234 appearances. Elway finished his NFL career with more than 50,000 passing yards and an even 300 touchdown passes.

The 2023 celebrity golf field also includes Steph Curry, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Aaron Rodgers, Zach LaVine, Jerry Rice, and Annika Sorenstam, along with more than 20 Hall of Famers, five Heisman Trophy winners and three NFL coaches.
