The inaugural Mark Twain Days celebration will take place April 21-23 in Carson City. You can get the inside scoop on the festivities at this week’s Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The lunch meeting takes place Tuesday, March 14 at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom. The public is invited to attend the meeting.

Carson City Arts and Culture Supervisor Sierra Scott and Carson City’s Arts & Culture and Tourism Authority Program Manager Debra Soule will fill members in on all the event details.

Mark Twain, the pen name of Samuel Clemens, is synonymous with Carson City and the Comstock. Clemons arrived by stagecoach to the territory in 1861 along with his brother Orion who had been appointed by President Abraham Lincoln to serve as the Secretary of the Nevada Territory. Clemons introduced Mark Twain to the world in 1863 with “A Letter from Carson City.”

Festivities during the three-day celebration include a Bow-tie Ball, train rides, live music and other entertainment, plus a family picnic.
