The Carson City Fire Department has announced open burn season will run through May 23 depending on permit status and weather conditions.

“The purpose of the open burn period is to provide residents an opportunity to dispose of accumulated weeds and yard debris,” city officials said in a press release.

Permits can be obtained online at www.carsonfire.org. Click on the notice for “Open Burn.” The form linked on the page needs to be printed and held on one’s person when burning. Permits will no longer be available in the fire department’s administrative office on a walk-in basis. The permit applies to all non-agricultural residents within the boundaries of Carson City, according to the fire department’s website.

Those with permits need to call 775-283-4776 each morning to check conditions. Dependent upon weather conditions, a recording will be updated each morning to advise if burning will be allowed for the day.

For information, call the Carson City Fire Department at 775-887-2210, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Follow the department on Twitter @CarsonFireDept and Facebook.com/CarsonCityFireDepartment.
