Douglas’ Smokey earns CCAA player of the week

Alyssa Smokey is absolute dominating the competition in the early portion of Cal Poly Humboldt’s — formerly Humboldt State — softball season.

The Douglas High graduate was named the CCAA Player of the Week after shutting down opponents in the circle and thumping the ball at the plate.

At the dish, Smokey was 7-for-8 in three games with two doubles, three RBIs and five walks.

In the circle, the sophomore tossed 13.2 innings and allowed just one run, picking up two wins.

Smokey became the first Cal Poly Humboldt player to earn CCAA Player of the Week honors since March 2020.


Luschars seeing action with Oregon softball

Kedre Luschar went 2-for-2 against Loyola Marymount on March 4, knocking in her fourth RBI of the season with the Oregon softball team.

Luschar is hitting .275 this season, with 11 starts in 18 games played.

The sophomore has 11 hits this season and has drawn three walks.

Her older sister, Kai Luschar, has appeared in 13 games and has scored five runs.

Both Luschars are Carson High graduates.

Oregon is 19-8 overall this season and is No. 18 in the country in the latest NCAA rankings.

Quilling homers against Adams State

Carson alumna Camryn Quilling hit her first home run with Colorado Christian against Adams State this past weekend.

Quilling has appeared in 28 games this season after earning All-American honors at Chandler-Gilbert Community College last spring.

Quiilling has driven in four runs this season and also has a double and a triple.

Farnworth getting plenty of time at Fort Lewis 

2022 Carson High graduate Caydee Farnworth has already thrown 56 innings at Fort Lewis College in 12 appearances this spring.

Farnworth is coming off 4 1/3 innings of shutout work in two separate appearances against Regis; she struck out five hitters combined.

The freshman also has two homers, two doubles and four RBIs at the plate.

Kohbarger appearing for Lassen College

Douglas High graduate Noah Kohbarger has appeared in five games this season for Lassen College baseball, throwing 11 1/3 innings.

The freshman has allowed five runs for a 3.97 ERA and eight strikeouts.


Hubbard gets innings at Mesa Community College

Mesa CC freshman James Hubbard, a 2022 Douglas High graduate, has thrown the third-most innings on the roster for the Thunderbirds this season.

In 24 innings of work, Hubbard has 11 strikeouts and is sporting a 4.13 ERA.

His latest appearance on March 17 was his longest outing of his young collegiate career, lasting 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three and allowed three runs.
