Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School wrestlers Ashlynn Kavangh, Hunter Smokey and Jada Fessler were all champions at the Tah-Neva middle school wrestling championships held over the weekend at Pershing County High School.
Ryan Campbell took second at the meet while Ryder Arigoni and River Klein were both third place finishers.
Grant Girdner took fourth.
Overall, the team finished ninth out of 17 total teams competing in the weekend championships.

Carson Valley Health donates shooting machine to Douglas basketball
Carson Valley Health donated a “The Gun 12k” basketball shooting machine to the Douglas High basketball teams.
The Gun 12k by Shoot-A-Way can pass the ball to any location on the floor, but also keeps track of makes and misses for an individual or team from any location. The 19-inch front display provides instant feedback and can help increase players’ shooting arch to 45 degrees, resulting in a 44% increase in target size.
“The Gun 12k allows an individual to get up to 2,400 shots per hour,” said boys coach Corey Thacker. “It has helped increase the shooting reps for both the boys and girls basketball programs to improve their shooting.”
Located in the gym at Douglas High School, the shooting machine is available for use by girls and boys varsity and junior varsity squads and was donated before the start of the 2022-23 season.
“Having the support of our community is amazing,” said Thacker. “Carson Valley is one of the best places to raise a family because of the backing the community has for all the kids in our area. With the recent donation of the basketball shooting machine from Carson Valley Health, our kids have gained a valuable tool, confidence, and many opportunities to improve their skills.”
The girls team reached the semifinals of the regional tournament and the boys team made the state tournament for a second consecutive year.
“We are so proud of the progress and accomplishments of both teams at Douglas High School,” said Carson Valley Health Chief Operating Officer Shannon Albert. “Organized sports, like basketball, help young people improve more than just physical skills. They also help improve social skills and give youth an outlet to get their energy out. We’re glad we could help.”
Minden Rotary Giving Cup set for May
The Minden Rotary Giving Cup — formerly the Bill Henderson Memorial Tournament — comes to Genoa Lakes Country Club on Saturday, May 20.
The Cup will benefit Friends in Service Helping community organizations and local non-profits in the Carson Valley.
Sponsorship opportunities are available, ranging from a hole sign sponsor at $150 up to one available title sponsor at $10,000.

Carson Valley Women’s Golf kicks off April 4
The Carson Valley Women’s Golf Club (CVWGC) is kicking off the 2023 season on April 4 with a four-person scramble and complimentary breakfast.
The group invites women of all ages and skill levels to participate in weekly Tuesday morning tournaments, which run through mid-October.
Membership dues are $75, which includes GHIN (Golf Handicap Information Network) dues and hole-in-one fund. Carson Valley Golf Course is located at 1027 Riverview Drive.

Eagle Valley Men’s Club swings away soon
The Eagle Valley Men’s Club is accepting applications for those 18 and over who desire a welcoming environment to play competitively with friends, co-workers, and even family members.
The season runs every Sunday from March 19 (weather permitting) to Oct. 29 at the Eagle Valley West Course in Carson City and will feature weekly games with three flights based on handicap and optional gross and net skins games.
Information about the men’s club and the season schedule, application, formats (all shotgun starts and mainly individual stroke play), and the club’s rules and policies can be found under “clubs” on the course web site, www.eaglevalleygolfcourse.com. Golfers may download the application and mail it in or stop by the Eagle Valley golf shop to pick up an application.
Members of the men’s club will receive reduced green fees, range balls every Sunday, Golf Handicap and Information Network service for the year, annual banquet and awards, prizes, and access to the web portal to view events and scores each week.
The club dues are $70 (by March 19, $80 after) for the year. If players have a GHIN at another course or club, the dues are $40 ($50 after March 19).
The season will include the President’s Cup (best score on each hole over two weeks), the Club Championship over two days, playoffs, a six-man team competition, and will culminate in a season-long points race.
This year the Eagle Valley Men’s Club also will travel two Sundays to Dayton Valley Golf Course and Silver Oak Golf Course.
