Trustees interview superintendent finalists this week

The Churchill County School District Board of Trustees will interview four finalists for superintendent at two special board meetings this week.

Two candidates will be interviewed Friday at the district office starting at 3:30 p.m., and two candidates will be interviewed Saturday at the Churchill County Middle School Library starting at 10:30 a.m.

For individuals attending Saturday’s interviews, the school district asks people to use the parking lot on the north side of CCMS and enter through the side entrance on West Virginia Street.

According to the school district, trustees may select the district’s next superintendent at the conclusion of Saturday’s meeting.

The public is also invited to meet the finalists at a community forum Friday from 2:30-3:30 p.m.at the District Office, 690 S. Maine St.

Blake Cooper has served as Fernley Intermediate School since 2021. Cooper previously was a principal at Yerington Elementary School for three years. Cooper has worked in education for 15 years, and his teaching experience includes seven years at Veterans Memorial STEM Academy in Reno where he taught sixth and second grade.

Cooper has a master of education degree in education leadership and a bachelor of science in elementary and special education both from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Brandon Moeller is the director of the Equity and Diversity Education Department for Clark County School District in Las Vegas. He has served in this position since 2018.

Before this position, Moeller was the assistant director of Instruction and Academic Unit & Safe and Respectful Learning Environment for the Clark County School District. He has been working in education for 23 years starting as a K-8 teacher in 2000.

Moeller is a doctoral student in educational policy and leadership education psychology, leadership, and higher education. He has a master of education in educational leadership, a bachelor of arts in criminal justice and a bachelor of arts in psychology, all from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

W. Derild Parsons is the director of Learning and Innovation for the Churchill County School District. He has served in this role since 2020, and before that, he was the director of special services for four years.

His teaching experience includes 11 years at the sixth-grade level and special education. Parsons has a master of education in education administration from Grand Canyon University and a bachelor of science in special education and elementary education from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Tim Spencer has been the principal of Churchill County High School since 2021. Before coming to Fallon, he was principal at Compton Learning Center in Canton, Ohio, for three years. Spencer has worked in education for 33 years. His teaching experience includes eight years in K-6 education and four years in secondary education.

Spencer has a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Phoenix College, a master of arts in computers in education from Lesley College, and a bachelor of arts in education from Metropolitan State College in Denver.
