The Northern Nevada Nurses of Achievement held their annual Awards Dinner on May 12 to close National Nurses Week.

Over 1,200 people gathered at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno to celebrate the contributions of nurses in the region. With 185 nominations received, Carson Tahoe Health highlighted many of its “talented, lifesaving caregivers,” according to a news release.

Honorees included:

Sandra Merkow, critical care nursing

Elaine Marriott, peri-op/operative nursing

Laura Beth Lathrop, behavioral health

Sophie Tetlow, Rookie of the Year

A special recognition was also bestowed upon Terry Long, manager of employee health, who was honored as Carson Tahoe's Nurse of the Year.

“This prestigious award highlights Terry's exceptional leadership and contributions made at Carson Tahoe Health during her 45-year tenure,” read the news release.

"Our nurses are amazing at caring for each patient’s health needs, but they really shine with how they care for their patient’s hearts,” said Maria Freed, nurse manager of clinical education at CTH and Northern Nevada Nurses of Achievement board member and treasurer. "The recognition they receive from Nurses of Achievement is well deserved and we are so thankful for each of them."
