Douglas cross country concludes season at state meet

The Douglas High School cross country teams ended their seasons Saturday at the Class 5A state cross country meet at Reno’s Rancho San Rafael Park.

The Tiger girls team qualified from regionals as a unit and went on to take 10th place with 206 points.

Lucy Nord was the first Douglas girls runner to finish Saturday, taking 29th in 21:39.

Nord’s time at the state meet was 43 seconds quicker than her regional qualifying meet time.

Ayla Nelson was the next Tiger to finish Saturday, stopping the watch at 22:33 in 46th place. Nelson cut 41 seconds off her Oct. 28 regional race time on the same course.

Niza Barton (22:51) and Logan Axtell (22:53) took 52nd and 53rd, respectively.

Freshman Amy Van Wagenen wrapped up her first state cross country appearance in 74th in a time of 24:17.

Kaile Mayotte was 81st in 26:05 while Julianne Hill finished 82nd in 26:34.


Tiger boys have three end season at state

On the boys side, Douglas featured three individual qualifiers at the state meet.

Junior Luke Davis, who has consistently been Douglas’ top runner all season was 32nd in a time of 18:14.

Junior Sage Spencer crossed the finish line in 54th for the Tigers, with a time of 18:52.

Senior Dennis Jorgensen nearly matched his regional qualifying time with an 18:58, which was good for 60th overall.
