Mayor Ken Tedford and the city of Fallon celebrated the grand opening of “Fallon on Ice” Saturday marking the successful implementation of a project that had been in the works for over eight years.

The temporary rink is located at 10 S. Carson St. next to the Douglass House and across from City Hall and will be open until mid-January.

Admission prices are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors/military and $12 for 5-17-year-olds. Children 4 and under are free. Skate rental is available as well as a $3 discount for anyone bringing their own skates. Double-blade skates are available for young children. Skating aids in the shape of dolphins and seals are also on site to assist new skaters or to give young children a ride around the rink.

Twelve-years-old and under must be accompanied by an adult. A waiver must be signed by every participant, or by a parent/guardian for anyone under 18 years of age. The waiver may be filled out ahead of time at www.fallonnevada.gov/fallononice.

Fallon on Ice is open seven days a week with several sessions running throughout each day. Sunday-Thursday sessions are noon-1:30 p.m., 2-3:30 p.m., 4-5:30 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sessions on Friday and Saturday run from noon-1:30 p.m., 2-3:30 p.m., 4-5:30 p.m., 6-7:30 p.m. and 8-10 p.m.

The city also has pricing for birthday parties and a list of the season’s discounted skate events. Mondays are “Monday Blues” with a $2 discount for anyone wearing blue. Tuesdays skaters can bring a friend for free on “2 for Tuesdays.” Wednesday nights are “Movie Night” for skaters to enjoy a movie during their session. “Student Night” on Thursdays costs just $5 for admission with a student identification card. Other upcoming theme nights include tomorrow night’s “Onesie Night” and a Disney Night on Dec. 22.

The Small Business Saturday special is free entry with a $25 or more local purchase. There will also be contests, prizes and a gift basket giveaway throughout the day.
