Prep sports: Basketball, wrestling seasons open this week

The high school winter sports season kicks offs today with tournaments locally and in California.

The Greenwave varsity boys basketball team will play in a three-day tournament in Rocklin, Calif., starting today while its junior varsity and freshman teams will hit the floor at Damonte Ranch. Fallon’s girls program is also on the road, starting today as all three levels will compete in different tournaments. All three teams will play at Spanish Springs today and Friday before moving over to Reno on Saturday.

Oasis Academy’s boys basketball team will also be in Reno for the Winter Invitational Tournament while the girls team doesn’t start its season until next week in Reno.

Fallon’s wrestling team will host the annual Earl Wilkens tournament on Saturday at the Rafter 3C Arena for the first time.

The following schedule is for Churchill County and Oasis Academy sports from Nov. 30-Dec. 6. Home CCHS wrestling matches and basketball games are played in the Elmo Dericco Gymnasium. Home Oasis Academy basketball matches are played at the city-county gym.
