Western Nevada College is part of a group of Nevada System of Higher Education community colleges that is continuing to offer the Nevada Promise Scholarship funded by the Nevada Legislature.

The catch is that Nevada high school seniors graduating in spring 2024 must apply for the scholarship no later than Oct. 31. To apply or learn more about the Nevada Promise Scholarship visit www.wnc.edu/advising/promise.php and "Click to Apply!".

The legislature has allocated scholarship funding for this select group of students that will cover tuition and other mandatory fees not met by federal or state aid, amounting to a savings of more than $3,000 per year. The scholarship provides aid for up to three years for students who apply and follow through with the requirements for receiving the scholarship.

Nevada Promise is open to Nevada high school students graduating between Aug. 1 and June 15 who begin classes at WNC in the fall immediately following graduation. Applicants must be classified as a Nevada resident for tuition purposes and must have earned a high school diploma from a private or public high school located in Nevada, or a public high school that is located in a county that borders the state and accepts pupils who are residents of this state.

Students may also qualify if they earn their general equivalency diploma (GED or HSE) prior to the age of 20. There are no income or high school GPA requirements. After applying, students will be guided through other requirements to secure their scholarship.

Students who are already receiving the scholarship are reminded that there are ongoing requirements to meet with their mentors and perform community service.

It’s not too late to enroll

Western Nevada College recognizes that there are students desiring to work at their own pace in courses. With open entry courses, students don’t need to start the semester when it officially begins.

For Fall 2023, students can enroll in open entry classes until the ninth week of the semester. The flexible enrollment deadlines for open entry classes allow students to work at their desired rate to complete coursework and assignments.

WNC offers open entry classes in anthropology, aviation, biology, construction management, electrical theory, English, environmental science, information systems, mathematics, music, philosophy, political science, and psychology.

Also, more than 20 late-start and short-term online and in-person classes are offered beginning Oct. 23. Among these classes are welding, education, electrical theory, manufacturing, auto mechanics, communications, art, and American sign language.
