Douglas volleyball sweeps Whittell

The first set was the only one Douglas volleyball was challenged over the weekend in a 25-23, 25-13, 25-13 sweep of Whittell.

Suzy Berger led the Tigers in kills with 11 while Shasta Garr and Asben Been each had six.

Sophomore Emersyn Worthington had a team-high 16 digs while Kiyara Clark posted 10 of her own.

Junior Sophia Vido and senior Megan Kelley had 11 and seven assists, respectively.

UP NEXT: Douglas (16-14, 3-9 in Class 5A North play) will travel to Spanish Springs (21-4, 11-1) Thursday for a 6 p.m. league start against the Cougars.


Douglas, Galena girls soccer play to draw

Douglas High School girls soccer picked up a point and continue to hold onto the final postseason spot in the Class 4A North Sierra League thanks to a 1-1 draw with Galena over the weekend.

Aleeah Weaver continued to add to her team-best goal total with the lone Tiger goal off an assist from Whitney Walters.

Weaver has 10 goals and four assists this season.

UP NEXT: Douglas (3-8-5, 2-3-4 in Class 4A league play) will be at Bishop Manogue (9-5-2, 5-1-2) Saturday for a 10:45 a.m. start.


Douglas boys soccer shutout by Carson

The Tiger boys fell to 1-16-1 after a 4-0 loss to Carson over the weekend.

UP NEXT: Douglas takes on Wooster Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.


Douglas girls golf competes at state

Douglas High School girls golf is down in Las Vegas early this week for the Class 4A Girls Golf State Tournament.

Full results can be found online upon completion and will be in Saturday’s print edition.


Tiger XC runs in California

Both boys and girls Douglas High cross country teams traveled to Foresthill, Calif., over the weekend for their cross country meet.

As a team, Douglas was second on the girls side with 32 points finishing behind Truckee.

Sophomore Lucy Nord was fifth in 21:11 while senior Niza Barton also finished in the top ten, taking seventh in 21:41.

Ayla Nelson was 11th in 22:17 and freshman Amy Van Wagenen was 14th in 22:41.

Julianne Hill and Kalie Mayotee crossed the line in 25:17 and 26:25, respectively.

On the boys side, the Tigers were able to take third as a team out of seven team scores.

Luke Davis was second overall, completing the 5,000 meter race in 17:03.

Senior Dennis Jorgensen was seven in 18:14 while freshman Nathaniel Blair was 24th in 20:09.

Noah Johnson (35th), Samuel Gaskell (37th), Tyler Reinhardt (47th), Wyatt Ervin (53rd) and Phillip McGoldrick (54th) all ran for Douglas at the meet as well.
