This week, the senior in the spotlight is Madeline Silsby. Maddie, as she’s known by, is an exceptional young woman, dedicated to her studies, her school and her community. Just by looking at Maddie’s transcript, you can see how strong a student she is. Maddie took her first Advanced Placement class her freshman year and already has completed all of the requirements to earn her AP Capstone diploma. She is currently ranked No. 1 out of a class of almost 500, with a grade point average of 5.3.

Along with being an exceptional student, Maddie is also a leader in the Carson High School community. Maddie has participated in numerous activities including golf, wrestling, National Honors Society (NHS) and Blue Crew. As a member of the golf team, she has taken on a leadership role as a co-captain since she was a freshman. She was manager for the wrestling team, helping keep the coach and wrestlers organized at practices and meets. She has been the event coordinator as well as president of NHS. As a Blue Crew leader, Maddie is tasked with helping freshmen and new students feel welcome and connected to CHS. Her calm demeanor and empathetic spirit helps her to make those connections on a regular basis.

Maddie’s parents instilled in her a value of community service from a young age. She spends countless hours in the community, particularly with her church. She volunteers at various activities throughout the year, supervising children in the Child Development Center as well as being a camp counselor during their summer camp.

Maddie is not 100% sure what the future holds for her. She is planning to study anthropology, English or environmental science. She has applied to several universities and is looking forward to making her choice this spring. Congratulations, Maddie! Carson High School is proud of you.
