City expands parking for Oats Park

The Fallon City Council received a report at its meeting Sept. 19 that additional parking will be provided for Oats Park.

Public Works Director Brian Byrd said the corner lot at 310 Court St., will be used for additional parking for Oats Park events. The structures were demolished two weeks ago, and the lot has been prepped with gravel.

The site previously was the location for the Churchill County Senior Center prior to the construction of the William N. Pennington Life Center on Maine Street, and it was also the headquarters for Churchill Area Regional Transportation. The agency has relocated to 223 Sheckler Road near the Churchill County Parks and Recreation buildings.

The council also approved a cabaret license and heard the police department August report.

• Pam Yost will use the cabaret license for live music at Cranberry Cottage gift shop at 25 S. Maine St. A performance by Charlie Gomes will kick off things at 6 p.m. Friday. Reservations can be made by calling 775-423-5080.

• Fallon Police Capt. John Riley presented the August police department report. Total calls for service were down by 58 when compared to August 2022. Officers issued 17 traffic citations and 152 traffic warnings for the month. There were 48 total arrests in August: eight felony warrant arrests, two gross misdemeanor arrests, 18 misdemeanor arrests and 12 juvenile misdemeanor arrests.

The Volunteers in Police Service donated 126 hours of assistance with Helping Hands and training hours.

Special detail conducted for the month included collecting cases of water donated by CVS Pharmacy of Fallon. Officers also attended the Churchill County High School Back to School night, the ribbon cutting for the new Oats Park Splash Pad and the National Night Out at Fox Peak Cinema.

Fifteen animals found new families through an adoption event held during the Fallon Cantaloupe Festival.
