Film and Hors d’oeuvers Extravaganza set

The American Association of University Women’s annual Film and Hors d’oeuvers Extravaganza will be March 16 at the Fallon Theater. Join us for Irish coffee, hors d’oeuvres, and sweets at noon, movie at 1:30 p.m.

"Leap Year” Is a delightful romantic comedy about the tradition of women asking men to marry them on Leap Year Day.

Tickets are $20. All proceeds go to local scholarships. Tickets available at Jeff’s, AAUW members or Fallon Theater.


Churchill County Republicans

Tickets have gone on sale for the 2024 Lincoln Day dinner March 16 which will feature Gov. Joe Lombardo as the keynote speaker.

The dinner will be held at the Fallon Convention Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the dinner and program begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $75 each.

The evening will also have a silent and live auctions, and the Lincoln Highway Band from Fallon will play during the cocktail hour.

Smith said the CCRCC will have a Washington, D.C., update from U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei. The Carson City native, who represents Congressional District 2 in Northern Nevada, has served in the House of Representatives since 2011.

In addition to the announced state office holders, Smith said local Republicans will be in attendance.


Fiddler on the Roof tickets

Performing Arts of Churchill County presents the all-ages community musical “Fiddler on the Roof” March 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. with a 1 p.m. matinee March 2.

All performances will be held at the Churchill County High School Theatre.

Advance tickets may be purchased for $20 from paccnv.org beginning Jan. 19 at 8 a.m. Tickets will also be available for $20 at the door as seating allows.

PACC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization promoting the arts culture in Fallon and Churchill County. The community is invited to participate in the PACC program as a performer, technician, volunteer or audience member.

Young Chautauqua program

The Young Chautauqua Program for youth ages 12-18 begins March 6 and continues every Wednesday through May 8. The free classes will be held at the Churchill County Museum from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Instructor Glen Perazzo and the museum staff will guide performers through researching a chosen historical figure to create and perform an entertaining monologue. This year the theme focuses on the history of Nevada's early state and local politicians.

Lahontan Valley Fine Arts Invitational

The Churchill Arts Council’s 11th biennial Lahontan Valley Fine Arts Invitational runs to Feb. 23.

This event is the largest invitational yet, with more than 50 pieces on display created by local artists.

Artists include Trista Dorman, Jackson Moon, Jaime Sammons, Kevin Sammons, Suzie Slaybaugh, Denise Johnson, Edith Isidoro Mills, Kathleen Williams Miller, Ocean Riddle, Michelle Nelsen, Kim Rowlett, Vanessa Burch Urquhart, Linda Hammond, Reid Sewell, Diane Sewell, Mary Darby, Lori Bishop, Jeanne Evatt, Marie Nygren, Loretta Burden, Larry Neel, Tedd McDonald, Diane Hansen, Claudia Hutchings, Casey Thorpe, Randy Summers, Jeannine Summers, Sheree Jensen, Ellen Brandfonbrener, Nettie Rickerson, Kim Lamb, Julie Lamb and Rico Lutao.

The exhibit showcases a wide range of media, including sculpture, photography, textiles, and paintings. All of the art is available for purchase.


Free radon kits

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Nevada Radon Education program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans through Feb. 29, while supplies last.

Radon test kits are available statewide at Extension offices including the Fallon office on Sheckler Road and partner locations. A list can be found at https://extension.unr.edu/radon/test-kit-locations.aspx.

Extension, in collaboration with the EPA, encourages all Nevadans to test their residences, schools, day cares, and all buildings for radon.


Youth baseball signups

Fallon Youth Baseball signups have begun and will be open until Feb. 23

The program includes T-ball, Rookies, Minors, Majors and Babe Ruth. Coaches are also needed.

A skills draft for Minors and Majors is Feb. 24. Opening day is March 23.

Pennington Life Center

Stop by the Pennington Life Center in February for the many activities planned for the month.

Cards, crafts, exercise, games, dressing up for Super Bowl and Mardi Gras, discussion on voting, welfare representative available to answer questions, Medicare representative and computer assistance are just a few of the activities and resources available at the Pennington Life Center in February. Plenty of good eats at the Pennington Life Center: All are welcome to partake. Lunch served 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. Cost is $6 for those under age 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and older.


Rotary Club of Fallon

Rotary meets every Tuesday at noon at the Stockman’s Steakhouse. Each meeting usually has a speaker. Guests are welcome.

NRCS financial and technical assistance

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is offering financial and technical assistance to help agricultural producers apply conservation practices through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Agricultural Management Assistance Program (AMA).

Approximately $17 million is available to producers through EQIP and AMA.

Applications for EQIP and AMA must be received by the local field office before 4 p.m. on March 29. Any applications received after the March 29 deadline will be considered for funding during the next funding cycle. Eligibility for applications will be determined by April 26 and money will be obligated by June 14.
