With early voting for the Presidential Preference Primary opening Saturday, the Carson City Clerk-Recorder’s Office is ready for early turnout and has begun processing mail-in ballots.

Early voting will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., and will continue Jan. 29 through Feb. 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Election-day voting is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 6. The primary is state-run and has different candidates than the presidential caucus being held by the Nevada Republican Party on Feb. 8.

Carson Clerk-Recorder Scott Hoen said his office is setting up a tent canopy at the community center “to protect those waiting in line from the weather.” His office is also moving the mail-ballot drop box from the east side of the community center to the west side on Roop Street. This will make it easier for voters to drive by and drop off without dealing with the east-side entrance, he said.

“The state implemented BallotTrax (https://nevada.ballottrax.net/voter/) where we upload those ballots that have been sent and then received,” Hoen said. “Voters may sign up for the service for free and be notified when Carson City elections has received their mail ballot via email and/or text.”

Furthermore, the clerk-recorder will post a list of ballots received at https://www.carson.org/government/departments-a-f/clerk-recorder/elections-department.

“The list will also show those that have voted in person once early voting has begun,” Hoen said.

Hoen expects wait times for in-person voting to be short.

“They won’t have to worry about rain or snow while waiting in line,” he said.

Besides at the community center, mail ballots may be dropped off at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Feb. 6.

Additionally, mail ballots may be dropped at the clerk-recorder’s office, 885 E. Musser St., number 1025, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 29 through Feb. 2 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6.
