A 14-year-old Carson High School student died Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of North Carson Street and Nye Lane.

The driver of the vehicle, along with witnesses, remained at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement. The accident is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit and the Nevada State Police.

“Although the scene was dark, street light fixtures existed on both sides of the street and crosswalk where the juvenile and her boyfriend were crossing. The victim’s friend was not injured in the accident,” the press release said.

The crash was reported at 5:40 p.m.

“At arrival, sheriff’s deputies began administering life-saving medical attention,” a press release from the sheriff’s office said. “However, upon the arrival of Fire/Paramedic units the pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene.”

The victim is a Carson High School student and her two brothers attend a Carson elementary school.

The Carson City Sheriff’s School Resource Officers are working with the Carson City School District to prepare for counseling service options.
