Lanes will temporarily be reduced on southbound Interstate 580 near Mt. Rose Highway in south Reno beginning March 11 as the Nevada Department of Transportation continues a project to resurface and improve the interstate and interstate ramps.

 NEW NORTHBOUND LANE REDUCTIONS

Beginning at approximately 6 p.m., March 11 through early April, one lane will be reduced on southbound I-580 near Summit Mall in south Reno as crews grind and flatten I-580 bridge transitions over South Virginia Street.
Drivers should anticipate lane reductions and shifts in the area as crews utilize temporary concrete barrier to protect the work zone.

CONTINUING WEEKDAY OVERNIGHT LANE/RAMP CLOSURES

Through early summer, drivers will also see the following intermittent lane and ramp closures as NDOT continues the highway improvement project which began in mid-2023:
• Additional overnight lane reductions will take place on both directions of I-580 between Mt. Rose Highway and South Meadows Parkway weeknights from 6 p.m.-7 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction.
• Periodic overnight ramp closures will continue at the Mt. Rose Highway, South Meadows and Damonte Ranch Parkway ramps between 7 p.m.-6 a.m. weeknights.
• Nearby detours will be available, and no two consecutive ramps will be closed in the same direction at the same.
• Speeds are reduced to 55 mph through active work zones.
The road work schedule is subject to change.

Drivers should also anticipate an upcoming multi-day closure of southbound I-580 exit 25B to South Virginia Street, with nearby detour available.
The project will:
•Resurface select interstate ramps, and repave small sections of interstate.
•Lightly groove surface of interstate lanes for further driving friction and safety.
• Add dedicated right hand turns at northbound I-580 ramps off ramps to Damonte Ranch and South Meadows parkways.
•Grind to further flatten I-580 surface transitions on I-580 bridges over S. Virginia Street.
Roadside lighting also will be improved.
