Carson track hosts second meet of season

Snow forced Friday’s league meet at Galena to be moved to Carson High School where the Senators welcomed the Grizzlies as well as Spanish Springs and Incline High schools.

Both Senator teams finished in third place.

On the girls side, freshman Allison Peachay won the 200 meters in 27.6 seconds. Senior Kaylynn Bloomfield took third.

Bloomfield won the 300-meter hurdles in 49.72.

Peachay took second place in the 400 meters in 1:05.6 while sophomore Saule Astronomo was third.

In the 1,600, Vea Miner was third for Carson in 5:43.44. She was second in the 3,200 in 12:31.08.

Junior Anne Davis won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.67.

In field events, freshman Emjae Salanoa was third in the shot put with a throw of 26 feet, 6.5 inches.

Freshman Ricci Ailes took second in the pole vault with a clearance of seven feet.

On the boys side, Jacob Weninger was fourth in the 100 meters in 11.8 seconds. Weninger took third in the 200 in 23.8 seconds.

In the 3,200 meters, sophomore Sean Thornton was second in 10:19.43.

In the shot put, junior Tristan Rutledge won with a throw of 40 feet, 6.25 inches.

Kekoa Mitchell won the discus with a throw of 123 feet, 1 inch for the Senators.

Jaren Thornburg cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to take third in the high jump while Aaron Witt was third in the triple jump at 37 feet, 4 inches.


Baseball falls to Spanish Springs

The Spanish Springs baseball team beat Carson, 7-5 in eight innings, on Thursday.

The Senators had a 3-2 lead, heading into the seventh but allowed the game-tying run before the Cougars scored four times in the eighth to win it.

Jordan Sieben, Tanner Boheimer and Ethan Cook all recorded two hits for Carson. Tyler LaFollette had one hit.

Sieben had two RBIs with a run-scoring single in the eighth inning and another in the bottom of the third. Sieben also threw 3.2 innings of relief in which he allowed four hits and one run while striking out three.

Cook and Marcus Montes were each credited with an RBI in the loss.


Carson softball starts this week

The Carson High softball team has three non-league matchups this week.

Tuesday, Carson was set to travel to Damonte Ranch before hosting Bishop Manogue on Thursday. Both games are scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m.

Friday, the Senators will host Franklin at 2 p.m.


Swimming runs first meet

After having its first meet of the season canceled, the Carson High swim team was able to get its first action of the spring last weekend at the Carson Aquatic Center.

On the girls side, the Senators bested Reed, 177 to 71.

Reed beat the Carson boys, 126-104.

The Senator girls won every event except one.

Larkin Russell won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.18 while Brynn Russell took first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:24.56.

Larkin Russell also took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle in 56.56.

Alexandra Llamas-Cruz won the 100-yard fly in 59.37 while Katarina Klatt won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:41.54. Llamas-Cruz also earned the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke, at 1:18.90.

Carson’s 200-yard medley relay team took first in 2:03.53 while the 200-yard relay and the 400-yard relay both won.

For the Senator boys, Leif Morway won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:34.47.

Todd Gosselin won the 100-yard fly in 1:00.94 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.41.

Clayton Whalen, David Del Florentiano, Gosselin and Morway won the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:49.19.
