One of the major faults in the Gerlach area runs along the Granite Range from town, featuring the nearby 7,759 foot elevation Granite Peak. The continuing sequence of earthquakes occurring near Gerlach is near the intersection of the Granite fault and another major fault that runs along the nearby Fox Range.
