The following program are being offered this weekend by the Carson Ranger District Office of the U.S. Forest Service:


- Saturday: Wildflowers at Red Lake Peak near Kit Carson Pass on Calif. S.R. 88. A half-day hike beginning at 10 a.m. from the parking lot at Kit Carson Pass. A $3 parking fee. Groups size is limited to 11 people. Call to reserve a spot. Best for ages 8 and up.


- Saturday: Bear Aware. Learn about the bears of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Beginning at 4 p.m. at the Snowshoe Springs Campground on S.R. 88 in Woodfords Canyon between Woodfords and Sorensen's Resort. Bring something to sit on.


- Sunday: Creature feature. Borda Ranch in King's Canyon, west of Carson City. Meet at 10 a.m. at the end of the pavement. Hike a circuit through the meadow. Find out what animals make their homes in the area. Allow two hours, Best for ages 6 and up.


- For the various programs, bring water, light snack, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, camera and film.
