Saturday is final day Carson City voter registration

Saturday is the last day for Carson City residents to register to vote.

The Carson City Courthouse, 885 E. Musser St., is open today and Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for voter registration. Saturday, the courthouse will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Mail-in applications must be postmarked by Oct. 7 to be eligible. Mail-in applications are available at the recorder's office, the Department of Motor Vehicles, 555 Wright Way, the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St., Sierra Pacific Power Company, 875 E. Long St.

Anyone registering to vote in person must bring proof of identification. Those registering via mail can't vote absentee ballot, and must bring identification to vote in the general election.

The city had 21,209 active registered voters in the 1998 election, and 1,600 more have registered for this election, said Chief Elections Clerk Tami Caldwell.
