RENO - Megan Mulvaney contributed 17 points in a supporting role as Carson High School beat Florin 53-46 at the State Farm Classic on Thursday, capturing fifth place in the tournament.

Mulvaney came up big on an off-night for Senator posts Alyson Thurman and Pam Williams. Meghan Gradert also had 18 points as the duo led Carson in scoring.

"It was a good win for us," Carson coach Paul Croghan said. "Florin's a pretty good team. This tournament has been good for us."

Carson turned a 13-10 deficit into a 25-21 lead by halftime, then gradually pulled away in the second half. Thurman and Williams, who normally lead the Carson offense, contributed 10 and three points, respectively.

"Pam and Alyson didn't have one of their better games, but someone else stepped in and got it done for us," Croghan said. "That was nice to see."

Carson hosts Reed at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, then opens league play at Reno at 5:15 p.m. Friday.
