It is nice this morning (Monday) but it was windy and snowy from Thursday through Sunday evening. Kirkwood Ski Area got 2 feet of new snow over the weekend."

-- FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: Shirley and Richard Wiggin of Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-993-4683) checked in with this report: Frenchman is free of ice. Cove fishing is best right now. We've heard of some nice rainbows being caught from shore at Turkey Point and Crystal Point. A couple of fly fishermen have been doing very well with olive Woolly Bugger flies near Ship's Cove, to the west of the dam. The road around the lake is accessible with a 4WD vehicle. The boat ramp is still snowed in.

It is nice this morning (Monday) but it was windy and snowy from Thursday through Sunday evening. The county will be planting the reservoir, about mid week, with catchable-size rainbows and some trophy-size rainbows from the hatchery at Susanville."

-- SACRAMENTO RIVER: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding, Calif. (800) 670-4448: Redding to Anderson: The trout fishing is up and down. River is at 5,400 C.F.S. Early morning and late afternoon has been best. Fishing with spinning gear with Flatfish lures and Glo-Bugs. Fly fishing with Nymphs, Glo-Bugs and Fox Poopahs No. 14. Working the area from the Posse Grounds to Anderson River Park.

-- SHASTA LAKE: Kirk Portocarrero: Fishing is fair to good. Trolling for rainbow trout and King Salmon in the Sacramento Arm of the lake. Using Shad pattern lures. Bass fishing picked up this week. Using rubber worms, crank baits and spinner baits.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

-- Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) reported, "The weather was terrible this last week and I had a number of cancellations. I spent most of my time shoveling snow off my boats. When I can get out, my fishermen are catching mostly Mackinaw trout (average size) with an occasional rainbow. Our biggest Mack last week was a very nice 12 pounder. I've been tagging and releasing most of the smaller ones. We've been trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach. We are using Herring Dodger flasher blades with either live minnows or pearl Apex lures."

-- Gene St. Denis of Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552): "The Mackinaw fishing is still slow, just like the rest of the lake. The Macks are staying deep and they are crammed with shrimp. We're trolling 200-300 feet deep. The average Mack is 2-5 pounds and my biggest last week was 10 pounds (29 inches). I've been working off of Cal-Neva Point and Dollar Point. Early morning from about 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. is your best bet. Our best action has been with silver-colored, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows."

-- LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: Gene St. Denis said: "The south shore has been slow. We've been toplining for German browns, rainbows and Mackinaw. We're trolling in front of Camp Richardson at a depth of 8-25 feet. Our best action has been with medium-size Rapala lures. The Mackinaw fishing is slow. When you catch a Mack, it is stuffed full of shrimp. We also caught a 3.5 pound brown in front of the Edgewood Golf Course at a depth of 30 feet, with a No. 9, Countdown, black/gold Rapala lure."

-- LAKE TAHOE -- East Shore: Gene St. Denis said: "The fishing is pretty much the same as last week at the Cave Rock Shelf. We are averaging 3-6 Macks per trip and they are running 3-9 pounds. We are trolling at depths of 150-300 feet with silver-colored, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows. If you fish with leadcore or wire line, you'll find the Macks are stacked up in holes that are 70-90 feet deep. Use Flatfish or broken-back Rapala lures.

I've also been toplining at Logan Shoals but it is slow. If you work hard and spend all day, you'll catch a couple of fish. We've been using Yzuri minnow lures or medium-sized Rapala lures, trolled at a depth of 25-40 feet, about 150 feet behind the boat."

-- TOPAZ LAKE: The fishing has been good for lots of pan sized rainbows. The boaters are trolling about 150-200 feet off shore and at a depth of about 10 feet. They are staying with Minnow, black/silver or black/gold Rapala lures.

-- WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort

(775-758-6472) gave this report, "It's sunny, there is no wind and it's currently a balmy 25 degrees at Wildhorse. It snowed, off and on, yesterday (Sunday) but everyone was out ice fishing. They have been catching lots of nice perch and rainbow trout. There is still about 3-3.5 feet of hard ice. Most of the fishermen are using small, white, plastic Crappie jigs with the hook tipped with either a piece of worm or mealworm. The mealworm is working the best. The snowmobiling was absolutely great this last week with about 1.5 feet of brand new snow."

WINNEMUCCA LAKE: No report.
