Senator Midgets win in youth football

The Carson Senator Midget Pop Warner football team improved to 3-3 with a 24-6 win over the Reno Colts.


Carson had more than 300 yards rushing for the third time this year.


The offense was led by quarterback Spencer Van Dyke and center Rob Valerius. Van Dyke completed four passes for 110 yards and also rushed for 45 yards.


Behind the blocking of Blake Anderson and Valerius, Travis Lamborn rushed for more than 150 yards and two touchdowns. Chris McBroom ran for 50 yards and a touchdown.


Johnny Kim, Rich Norgrove and Mike McBroom, filling in for the injured Tony Roberts, all played well offensively. Lamborn scored both of his touchdowns in the first half behind the blocking of Justin Shinn and Tyson Curren.


Led by Sean Christensen, the Senator defense held the Colts to minus 30 yards in the first half. Christensen had 15 solo tackles, six tackles for loss and a forced fumble.


Steven Peters had 12 tackles and two tackles for losses and Tim Peters, Daniel Cunningham and Kyle Churchley combined for 17 tackles, eight for losses, and one forced fumble.


Behind the blocking of Donavan Dean and Norgrove, Van Dyke completed a 45-yard pass to set up McBroom's touchdown.


In the second half, the Senators held the Colts to 45 yards and forced a fumble behind Christensen, Mike McBroom, Steve Peters and Tim Peters. Frisco Merril, Will Adler, Vince Scognamiglio and Austin Bartosz also played well offensively and defensively.


Defensive backs Wes Reddick and Brooks Greenlee combined for several deflected passes and 14 tackles. Safety Scott Pierce also deflected several passes and had an interception. Carson has a bye this week and will play in Fallon on Oct. 25.
