Obituary for Clara Warthan

A memorial service for Clara Warthan, 93, a Carson City resident for the past seven years, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Hawthorne.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Warthan Cemetery in Annona, Texas.

Mrs. Warthan died Oct. 16, 2002, in Roseville, Calif. She was born Sept. 27, 1909, in Quitman, Ark., to Allen and Ada Hargett Webb.

She married Cecil Warthan July 8 , 1930 while living in Red River County, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1972.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in Hawthorne for 46 years.

During the early years of her marriage, Mrs. Warthan was a housewife. When World II began she became a munitions worker. After the death of her husband, she was a child-care provider. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne for almost 50 years.

Among her survivors are her brother Harold Webb of Fresno, Calif.; sons Allen of Carson City and James of Roseville, Calif., grandsons Gregory Warthan and Kenneth Warthan, both of Carson City; Timothy Warthan of Tacoma, Wash. and Nathan Warthan of Salem, Ore.; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lassila Funeral Chapels is in charge of arrangements.
